People born between the 2nd World War Babyboom and the millennials are Generation Xers. This definition is used to people that where born in the beggining of the 60´s ending somewhere form 1977 to 1985 and are numbered around 65 million. The term invented by Charles Hamlett and Jane Deverson (originally referring to the Baby Boomers in their teenage years), was made popular by Douglas Coupland's eponymous 1991 novel.
This generation is marked by rising divorce rates, as Angela said in her post, a rising in participation of women in the workforce, the crack epidemic and AIDS, as Vascus also said in his post, and the rise of personal home computers. This generation is the first post-civil rights generation what makes them, considered by many people, the least racist of today's generations.
