Women nowadays have come a long way due to several movements, and it all started during the 60´s. As stated in a post i saw “At the beginning of the decade, women wereportrayed on television and in advertisements as happyhomemakers, secretaries, teachers, and nurses. Women who did not get married were depicted as unattractive, unfortunate spinsters, and those who asserted themselves were dismissed as nagging shrews. Women were to strive for beauty, elegance, marriage, children, and a well-run home.” But as the journalist Kati Marton said in HiddenPower: Presidential Marriages That Shaped Our RecentHistory "The Sixties were an edgy time of transition, change, and confusion", especially for women. The second wave of women’s rights movement, also called women’s liberation movement, started in the 1960´s, after the first attempt, that led into the women being able to vote. With the change in their rights also came a change in their fashion. As said in another post i found, “Fashion in the 1960s became progressively more casual across all genders and ages. Womenswear followed threebroad trends: a continuation of the previous decade’s ladylike elegance, the youthful styles of Mary Quant and the Space Age influence, and the late 1960s “hippie” style. Menswear saw an increasing amount of color and pattern, military influence, and new fashion icons in the form of rock stars. Children’s wear saw less change, but also became more casual and bright in color and pattern”.Women came from being a stay at home wife to be educated and join the workforce.
